Congratulations Eric & Kim Smith - Jun 27, 2009

From the Officers and Members of the Sharon Hill Fire Company we would like to wish a congratulations to Eric and Kim Smith on their wedding. Eric currently serves as the 1st Lieutenant (09-13) and Board of Director for the Fire Company. Earlier in the day before the wedding Eric got to run two Fire Alarms before getting ready for his big day. Eric hitched a ride on Engine9-1 from his house up to the church. Eric and Kim were married at Holy Cross Church which is located just up the street from Station 9. Once again the Officer and Members of the Sharon Hill Fire Company would like to wish them congratulations and best of luck on their future endeavours.
Engine9-2 Lays in on Fire in Collingdale - May 26, 2009
Just before 5am the box alarm was struck out for Harris Elementary School, 501 Sharon Ave, Collingdale for a working fire. On the initial Ticket was 06, 42, 09, 04, Ladder21-5, while companies were en-route fireboard advised they were get conflicting reports on the exact location of the fire. Quint6 arrived on the 600 Block of Hibbered with a garage fully involved with exposures. Engine9-2 picked up the hydrant at Sharon and Hibbered and laid into Quint6 while crews from Quint6 and Engine42 extinguished the fire. Crews assisted the Collingdale Companies with overhauling the garage which had collapsed prior to FD Arrival. Engine9-2 runs 3 cover-ups in 24hours - May 22, 2009
The first cover up assignment came in Thursday night before midnight for Engine Co 9 to relocate an Engine to Sttion 52 (Brookhaven) while they were assisting Aston Township Fire Companies. Engine9-2 with 6 remained at Station 52 for a few hours before returning to Station 9. Around 11am the second cover up rang out this time again to relocate to Station 52 while they were in City of Chester fighting a 2 alarm fire. Engine9-2 with 6 remained at Station 52 for a little more then 2hours before returning. Just as crews finished doing paperwork for the second cover up the tones were dropped again to coverup Station 39 (Lower Chi) who were out on a Working Fire in Claymont, Del. Just after Shift Change for EMS Crews the building fire assignment was dispatched to 421 S. Lansdowne for a Building Fire. Shortly after dispatch units started advising a header was visible, and Police were confirming it was a working fire on the 2nd floor. Truck 19 and Engine24 arrived and reported a large 3 story twin, smoke showing 2nd & 3rd floor, and fire showing from the 2nd floor both sides in the rear. Command requested an additional Engine and shortly after the balance of the 2nd Alarm. As companies went responding Command requested Full Company 9 as well. Engine9-2 with 5 quickly hit the streets after dispatch followed up by Engine9-1 & 9-3. Crews stoodby in the front and eventually in the rear as Ladder 16, Truck 19, Quint3, and Squirt36 extinguished the fire. Engine Co 9 remained on scene for 5 hours assisting crews with picking up equipment and helping restore trucks.Engine Co 9 Runs another 3 Alarm Fire in Darby - May 1, 2009
Around 11:30am the 2nd Alarm assignment was struck out for the 300 block of Darby Terrace, Darby. Engine9-2 with 8 hit the street within seconds of dispatch and took the rear of buildings. Crews assisted in suppression efforts while 2 members headed up to the roof to assist Ladder 16 with opening the roof. As crews threw ladders in the rear and helped stretch handlines Engine9-2's crew assisted Ladder 16 in opening the roof over the original fire building. Crews then started to put a hole in the Delta exposure roof but were forced to withdraw due to heavy fire conditions in the cockloft as well as fire venting from side A out onto the roof which was also catching fire. Crews then put a trench in the roof of the Delta-1 Exposure to stop the spread of fire while crews on the Bravo exposure also started to trench the roof. Once the fire was knocked down again crews continued to open the roof over multiple buildings to assist interior crews. The fire was placed under control after crews worked hard for 3hours and continued to remain on scene restoring equipment and apparatus. Just before 2am the assignment was struck out to Assist Company 05 (Glenolden) with a car fire at the intersection of Isabel and Thomas, Glenolden. Engine9-2 with 4 quickly hit the street and arrived and assisted Engine5's crew with gaining access to the engine and trunk compartments. Crews also pulled a backup line to the rear of the house just in case it was needed. Also on scene were Engine9-1, Engine9-3, Utility 5
Engine 9-1 Runs Various Medicals - Apr 24, 2009
In the past 24hours Engine Company 9 has run a total of 4 Medical assists each time responding with numerous PA certified Emergency Medical Technicians. The first medical came in to assist the ambulance with lifting of a cardiac patient. Crews quickly helped package and load the patient into the awaiting ambulance. The next medical run came in shortly after for a cardiac arrest. Crews assisted in loading the patient and then helped escort the ambulance through traffic to the Hospital. The last EMS run for Thursday came in after dinner to assist the EMS with force entry & lifting. However the Engine crew was returned shortly after arrival. And finally the last run came in today to assist the ambulance with lifting once again. Crews helped perform BLS skills along with Ambulance04-7B and helped load the patient for the trip to the hospital. The crews from Ambulance04-7B and Engine Co 9 continue to work together to improve patient care for the community.Engine9-2 runs a line on First Due Fire - Apr 22, 2009
Around 3:30 the Box Alarm was struck out for 158 Laurel Rd for a Building Fire reported to be a bedroom fire with the occupant trying to get out. Engine9-2 with 6 and Chief9-9 went responding and were advised Police had smoke showing from the 2nd floor. Engine9-2 arrived and went in service with an 1 3/4 handline and quickly made an attack on the bedroom fire. Interior Command requested to have the two front windows removed but to hold off on the roof as the fire was knocked down. The fire was placed undercontrol within 40mins.
